Amusing Critique Excuses

Thu Jan 3, 2008, 5:26 PM
I'm going to start posting people who lie to me about their intentions on their work. Sometimes when I submit a nice critique, people will say they meant for things to be that way. It's obvious when they're lying.

Some people do it for effect, which is okay (right click, open in new tab).

Some people say their mistakes were for 'effect' or 'on purpose' (will submit more later).

NUMBER ONE
[link] :thumb73262892: This is a very pretty shot. Great lighting, great tone, great DOF. However, it's off balance because there is more weight on the left side than on the right.

My critique: "Nice and clear. A bit centered though."

Her response "Thanks. Yeah, but I wanted it to be. Normally I do try to off center my shots, but I just liked this one centered for some reason... can't really explain why in a comment... but it's about spirituality and how humans just like waterdrops are frail, but can be so strong when 'centered' in God."

Okay I think. Perhaps she's telling me the truth. It looks like she knows what she's doing. Next, I went to her gallery. Almost everything centered, which can work, but is dangerous

NUMBER TWO (Advanced Critique Encouraged)
[link]

My critique: "Cool shot, seems too blue though."

Their response: "I think the blue helps accentuate the Rubik's cube and Square-1 colours. The hot colours and cool colours contrast each other nicely, imho."

Sure, the hot and cool colors contrast nicely, but guess what? With the blue STAIN all over the image the hot colors become dulled down with blue and are anything but 'accentuated.'
This person messed up their light settings and won't admit it.
